The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the UK's independent concert spaces.

The star was awarded the award on 16 October as his third album the album was declared the best record of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous local spots across Britain.

These funds helped venues that were confronting imminent closure due to issues caused by flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues received monetary aid in improving amenities and technical equipment that helped artists and fans.

"The idea that funds from shows in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his award funds to good deeds.

When the band won the award in the year 1996 for their record the album, frontman Cocker stated that the group would contribute their cash to the organization the charity.

In 2002, artist Ms Dynamite split her prize across several organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed better apparatus," the artist told outlets.

In recent years, the band contributed their prize money to the community center that supported their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

And winners that year the group gave their award to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated artist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted another person's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had rescued two small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the other in that location were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "shares" in the venues.
